Representative coaches
How Junior Hawks coaches are appointed and what support they receive.
Read more →Every team at the Snakepit has a coach, and most of them started as a parent who put their hand up. Basketball Illawarra supports coaches from the first local-competition season through to the representative and NBL1 programs — with courses, resources and a clear pathway.
How the pathway works in 2026
Basketball Australia’s new Coach Development Framework has two streams. Competition Coach (formerly Club Coach / Level 1) is for domestic and junior representative coaches and is mandatory for all Junior Hawks head and assistant coaches. Representative Coach (formerly Association Coach / Level 2) is for Division 1, state and high-performance environments. Within each stream you progress Bronze → Silver → Gold by earning Coach Development Points through courses, workshops and coaching experience — there’s no fixed time between levels.
